The knight does no good here, and now it also becomes an unprotected target.} Nxd5 {Now white is down a pawn, and his king is still uncastled.} 15.Qc2 {Apparently trying for the cheap shot one-move mate on h7} g6 {Black saw it} 16.0-0 {16.Ne4 may have saved the c-pawn, but it was wise for Jim B. (a novice player) to realize that it was more important for white to get his king to safety. Black is already up a pawn, and can win another pawn with Nxc3, 17. Bxc3 Qxg5!! (i.e. the unprotected target). And moving the knight wouldn`t help, as black can then play Nxe2+. So black could have been up 2 pawns on his next move.} b5?? {But this move by black, however, then saved white from all of those nasty consequences. Not sure what Mike was thinking here with this move, but all of us on the white team breathed a sigh of relief after this move.} 17.Qd2 {This move by Paul apparently sought to take advantage of black`s weaknesses on the dark squares} Ne6 18.Nxe6 fxe6 19.Qh6 {Threatening a one-move mate} Rf7 {Black saw it, pretty much his only saving move (aside from Nf6)} 20.Bf3 {Bd3 seemed stronger to Steve D. and Jim Bon., with the idea of Bxg6 on the next move, but Nf4 would prevent it.} Bb7 21.Be4 {Steve D was going for that attack on this move, but Nf4 could still stop it.} Nxc3 {This move also stopped that attack, because as Paul had observed, if white were to respond with 22. Bxg6 on his next move, it would not be sound, as black had Ne2+!!, followed by NxB on d4.} 22.Bxc3 {good move by Dave, forcing black to recapture on c3 first to save his queen, allowing white to take the unprotected light square bishop} Qxc3 23.Bxb7 {Jim P. did not hesitate for an instant in making this move, as now white grabbed black`s unprotected bishop on b7} Rxf2?? {Apparently this was a desperation tactic by Pravin, perhaps hoping that white would make a mistake on the next move, which would be played by a novice player } 24.Kxf2! {Excellent move by Jim B., our newest member and novice player, who was afraid that he might play this move wrong. 24. Bxa8 also would have been good, but not 24. Rxf2? allowing for Qxa1+. So Kudos to Jim B. with his good move here. } Qb2+ 25.Kg1 Rb8 26.Rac1 {Jim Bon. had a lot of options here; and of course black cannot take the bishop, because of mate of the 8th rank} Qg7 {Another desperation move, and now black is hopelessly lost} 27.Qxg7+ {Simply trading queens does the trick} Kxg7 {Now black is down a rook and a bishop. Black was also in serious time trouble, with only a few minutes remaining on their clock. The remainder of the game is trivial.} 28.Bxa6 Rb6 29.Bc8 d5 30.Rc7+ Kg8 31.Rff7 e5 32.Rg7+ Kh8 33.Rge7 Re6 34.Bxe6 b4 35.Rc8# {And mate also could have been accomplished by either 35.Re8# or 35.Rxh7#} 1-0
